The improvement of sustainable community welfare largely depends on the strengthening of regional economies, particularly at the regency level, which serves as the frontline of Indonesia’s administrative system. However, not all regions possess strong economic structures and equal competitiveness. Therefore, it is essential to identify key sectors that significantly contribute to regional economic growth. This study employs the Shift Share Analysis (SSA) approach and the Location Quotient to map base sectors that can drive regional economic strength. The research focuses on Pidie Regency as a case study to analyze local economic dynamics. The SSA approach is expected to provide deeper insights into regional economic performance and serve as a foundation for formulating more targeted and inclusive development policies.
