Digital leadership is needed to improve the performance of government organizations. This competency is one of the targeted competencies of the Level II National Leadership Training, which is included in the Strategic Leadership Agenda. However, participants shows relatively low digital literacy, observed by the change projects they developed and their ability to use digital tools during the training. This condition is feared to impact the ability to improve organizational performance after training. Therefore, this study inquires how digital leadership competency can accelerate the performance of government organizations. Another question is how digital leadership development strategies can strengthen the performance of government organizations. This study uses a mixed methods approach, combining quantitative and qualitative approaches. A total of 82 respondents, alumni of the Level II National Leadership Training at the Center for Training and Development and Public Administrative Law Studies in 2022 and 2023, participated in this study, and nine of them participated to in-depth interviews. The study finds that digital leadership is considered successful in improving the performance of alumni organizations. Performance achievement becomes more effective and efficient as the process became more transparent and accountable. Based on in-depth interviews, it was found that the implementation of digital leadership significantly help the planning and evaluation processes. There are three critical competencies that PKN II alumni need to be strengthened: digital planning skills for government organizations, innovation development skills for performance, and the ability to build an innovative work culture. Further, the preferred competency development approaches by alumni are training, independent learning, and mentoring/coaching.
